2017 Women's Works Fine Art Show (March 8 - April 30)

The astounding Women's Works Fine Art Show will be hosted at the Old Court House Arts Center. Celebrating its 30th anniversary, this year's show includes 120 works by artists from as far away as Japan, Croatia, the Middle East and beyond. The show is juried by the original founders of the show, local artists Lynn Carlson, Nan Seidler, Alice White, Doris Gallagher and Jeanine Hill-Soldner. Learn More

Eugene V. Debs and the Fight for Free Speech During WWI (April 25)
McHenry County Historical Society Museum
Union, Illinois

University of Tennessee historian Ernest F. Freeberg will mark America's entry into World War I by revisiting one of its greatest opponents: Socialist and one-time McHenry County prisoner, Eugene Debs. The talk will center around Freeberg's award-winning book, Democracy’s Prisoner: Eugene V. Debs, The Great War, and the Right to Dissent. The talk explores an important legacy of World War One, the fight for civil liberties waged by those who worked to free American socialist leader Eugene Debs from prison.

37th Annual WFAA Spring Luncheon Fundraiser (April 28)

Queen Victoria's Secrets are shared by Debra Mancoff at the Woodstock Fine Arts Association's 37th Annual Spring Luncheon Fundraiser for the Arts of McHenry County. Dr. Mancoff is a scholar-in-residence at the Newberry Library and author of more than 20 books. The event includes a silent auction and a 50/50 raffle. Israeli storyteller Noa Baum grew up in Jerusalem in the shadow of the ancestral traumas of the holocaust and ongoing wars. In America, she met a Palestinian woman who had grown up under Israeli Occupation, and as they shared memories of war years in Jerusalem, an unlikely friendship blossomed. A Land Twice Promised delves into the heart of one of the world's most enduring and complex conflicts. Baum's deeply personal memoir recounts her journey from girlhood in post­-Holocaust Israel to her adult encounter with "the other." With honesty, compassion, and humor, she captures the drama of a nation at war and her discovery of humanity in the enemy.

Red Rose Ragtime Band (May 6)

Formed in 1981 by percussionist Mike Schwimmer and pianist/arranger Joan Reynolds, the band specializes in ragtime for the 7-piece jazz band format and their concerts present a potpourri of musical Americana, straight from the roots of our animated musical heritage - ragtime, blues, and jazz, as well as pop selections from the 1920's thru the 1930's.  Violinist Will Ejzak-Reynolds will join pianist Joan Reynolds for some piano/violin duets during the program. 2017 Miss Woodstock Pageant (May 13)

The Miss Woodstock Scholarship has been a staple in the Woodstock community since 1948. Over the years, more than sixty young women have vied for a title that would earn them a scholarship to aide them in their continuing education.  This is not your typical pageant; this is a long time Woodstock tradition.  The Little Miss Woodstock program benefits girls between the ages of 8-12 who are Woodstock residents.

Kim Simmonds and Savoy Brown (June 2)

Formed in London in 1965 by guitarist Kim Simmonds, Savoy Brown is a UK version of a Chicago blues band. Their first album Shakedown in 1967 on Decca records was one of the major UK releases that helped spark the British Blues Boom.  Later albums such as Hellbound Train on London records in the 1970’s cracked the Billboard Top 40 charts making Savoy Brown one of the very few blues rock bands ever to have such commercial success.  Recent albums such as Voodoo Moon, Songs From The Road, Goin’ To The Delta, and their latest, The Devil To Pay, still top the sales for Blues albums and have made them one of the longest, continuously running blues/rock bands in the world today.
